Welding Of Stainless Steel Butt Weld Elbows

Date: | Read: 23

Stainless steel elbows are made of the same material as the pipe and are stamped into half-ring elbows with a stamping die, and then two half-ring elbows are welded together. Due to the different welding standards of various types of pipelines, semi-finished products are usually shipped out of the factory by spot welding, and the on-site construction is welded according to the grade of the pipeline weld. Therefore, it is also called a two-half welded elbow. The welding matters of stainless steel stamped elbows are as follows:

1. Stainless steel elbows have high hardening after welding and are easy to crack. If the same type of stamped elbow welding is used, preheating above 300℃ and slow cooling treatment of about 700℃ after welding are performed. If the weldment cannot be heat treated after welding, stamped elbow welding rods should be used.

2. In order to prevent inter-hole erosion caused by heating, the welding current should not be too large, about 20% less than that of carbon steel electrodes, the arc should not be too long, and the interlayer cooling should be fast, and narrow welds are preferred.

How to correctly install stainless steel elbows? Below, I will tell you in detail:

1. Before installation, carefully check the various standards of the stainless steel elbow, whether the diameter meets the use requirements, remove the defects caused by the transportation process, and remove the dirt on the stainless steel elbow, make preparations before installation, and be ready.

2. During installation, the stainless steel elbow can be directly installed on the pipeline according to the connection method and installed according to the position of use. Under normal circumstances, it can be installed at any position of the pipeline, but it needs to be easy to operate and repair. Note that the flow direction of the cut-off stainless steel elbow medium should be from the bottom of the longitudinal valve disc to the bottom, and the stainless steel elbow can only be installed horizontally.

3. When installing the stainless steel elbow, pay attention to the sealing to prevent leakage and affect the normal operation of the pipeline. The bolts of the packing gland of the stainless steel elbow valve should be tightened evenly and should not be pressed into a crooked state to avoid bumping, hindering the movement of the valve stem or causing leakage.

4. When using the ball valve, stop valve, and gate valve of Stainless Steel Weld Elbow, they are only fully opened or fully closed, and are not allowed to be used to adjust the flow to avoid erosion of the sealing surface and accelerated wear. There is a reverse sealing device in the gate valve and the upper threaded stop valve. Tighten the handwheel to prevent the medium from leaking from the packing.

5. Use a handwheel for stainless steel elbows. Do not use levers or other tools to avoid damaging the valve. Turn the handwheel clockwise to close, and vice versa to open.
